Itinerary

7 Days Everest base camp trek itinerary summary

An early morning flight will take you to the starting point of the Everest base camp trek, Lukla (2,860 m). You spend the night in Phakding village (2,610 m) on this day. The trail from Lukla descends following the Dudh Koshi river and crossing many hanging bridges. From Phakding, you'll walk past small villages, including Monjo (2,835 m), and begin trekking in the Sagarmatha National Park from here onwards. 

Walking via lush rhododendron and magnolia forests, you cross many bridges and villages before steeply ascending to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m). The next day, the trail ascends to Tengboche village (3,860 m) along the verdant foothills. Further crossing the Imja Khola, walk past Pangboche village (3,985 m) and terraces to Dingboche (4,410 m). The trail gets steeper and barren as we approach Lobuche village (4,940 m). 

This part of the Everest base camp trekking route also involves walking on the glacier. From Dughla (4,620 m), it's a downhill walk to Lobuche village. Now, you walk further along the Khumbu Glacier and pass by Gorak Shep (5,164 m). From here, the next stop is the Everest base camp (5,364 m). You spend the night in Gorak Shep and hike to Kala Patthar (5,644 m)early in the morning the following day.

A helicopter will pick you up from Kala Patthar and make a detour over EBC and Khumbu Icefall before descending to Lukla. The helicopter ride doesn't end here. After refueling the chopper, you'll descend to Kathmandu and end the short Everest base camp trekking.

Get ready for an exciting thrilling flight to Lukla this morning that takes you to the starting point of the trail. Following a downhill trail along the Dudh Koshi river, we will head towards Phakding village. On the way, we'll walk through villages like Ghat and cross a few suspension bridges. The trail is rough and forested. You get to see beautiful waterfalls and pretty views. In Phakding village, visit Rimishung monastery.

    From Phakding, we continue trekking along the northern bank of the Dudh Koshi river, admiring mountain panoramas. Further, we cross the Hillary Suspension bridge and ascend to Monjo village. From here onwards, we walk in the Sagarmatha National park and walk past dense forests of rhododendron & magnolia. The trail gradually ascends to Namche Bazaar.

      Today, it's a scenic walk to Tengboche village. The trail first descends to Phunki Thenga village, and from here, we walk following alpine woods to Tengboche village. It's more likely you get to see wildlife and pheasants on the way. Tengboche houses the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region that you will surely visit and also presents one of the best views of Mt. Ama Dablam. Some other mountains like Lhotse, Everest, and Nuptse are also seen from this village.

        After breakfast, get ready for the day and take a short walk up to Dingboche village. Leaving Tengboche, the trail walks past villages like Deboche and Pangboche. Further, following alpine terraces, you will ascend to Dingboche village, also known as the Summer Valley of the Khumbu region.

          The treeline begins to get thin from Dingboche village onwards. We walk on the uphill trail above the Pheriche village and soon walk along the Khumbu glacier. Following a glacier path, hike to Dughla and walk past memorial statues made in remembrance of climbers. The trail then continues to Lobuche village for the night stay.

            You will be reaching the Everest base camp today, so it's a big day. We leave Lobuche village early in the morning and walk alongside the lateral moraine of the Khumbu glacier. The trail goes through Gorak Shep and ascends to Everest base camp, following a steep, rocky path. You can see EBC marked with big stones and colorful prayer flags. Spend some time here, enjoying the views, and later descend to Gorak Shep, retracing the path to spend the night.

              We have a short hike ahead of us today that leads to the famous Kala Patthar viewpoint. The trail we will be following is slippery and rugged, so we have to be careful while walking. As the day breaks out, the rays of sun on the glistening tops of the mountains make the view surreal. Upon reaching Kala Patthar, we will witness a breathtaking mountain panorama. 

              We will spend some time, and a helicopter will come to pick you up from here and fly you back to Kathmandu. The helicopter flight will be incredible, too, and the aerial mountain panorama will magnify the overall trip experience.

              What's it like to trek to Everest base camp?
