We start our trek from Nayapul (1050m.). We would drive up to Nayapul from Pokhara. From Nayapul, we would trek to Tikhedhunga (1577 m.) via Birethanti (1065m.) which takes about four and half hours. Overnight at tea house lodge.

We trek from Tirkhedhunga to Ghorepani (2675 m.). Today we could ascend down gently passing through Ulleri (2070m.) and Banthanti, Magar villages. On the way, one could see majestic view of Machhapuchhre (6997m.), Huinchuli (6441m.), and Annapurna South (7219m.). Overnight at Ghorepani at tea house lodge.

Today we trek from Ghorepani to Poon Hill (3180m.) and then to Tadapani (2675m.). We cover the distance within five and half hours of normal trek. Early morning, we start our trip to Punhill (3180m.) to enjoy the sunrise view over Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m.), Tukuche Peak (6920m.), Nilgiri (6940m.), Varaha Shikhar (7847m.), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m.), Annapurna South (7219m.), Annapurna III (7855m.), Machhapuchhre (6993m.), Annapurna IV (7525m.), Annapurna II (7937m.), Lamjung Himal (6931m.) and numerous other snowcapped mountain peaks. Having breakfast at Ghorepani, trek to Tadapani (2650 m.) through the deep forests of rhododendrons, bamboos and oaks. En route, one can observe waterfalls, rocks, wild animals, birds and green valleys. Overnight at Tadapani at tea house lodge.

Trek from Tadapani (2675m.) to Ghandruk (1950m.). Comparatively, today is the easiest trek of all days. One has to trek through the forests of Rhododendron and oak One could hear soothing chirp of birds on the way. This trek is also offers best alternative for birds lovers. Ghandruk is a big Gurung village. There is a handicraft centre and Gurung museum. From this village you could observe good views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna (7455m.), Annapurna III (7755m.) and Fishtail. Ghandruk village is listed in World Heritage Site. Overnight at Ghandruk. In the evening, typical Gurung Cultural program will be organized on demand. At tea house lodge.

Trek from Ghandruk (1950m.) to Nayapul (1990m.). Now the rest of the trail descends gently down to Dhampus passing through Pothana village (1900m.). Then drive back to Pokhara from nayapul

Ghorepani Poon hill budget trek difficulty

Trekking to Ghorepani and Poon hill is not that complicated. The hiking route is well made and goes through rhododendron forests. You may come across a handful of rocky and steep sections. The trail has long staircase climbing, which may get difficult for some trekkers. If you are fit and healthy, you can do Poon hill trekking without previous trekking experience. 

Altitude sickness

The risk of altitude sickness during Ghorepani and Poon hill budget trekking is comparatively less than on other famous trekking trails. Still, we cannot guarantee an altitude sickness-free trek because your body may react to changes in elevation. Simple but delicious meals are given during the trek. We eat dal bhat for lunch & dinner as a heavy meal. It's a staple meal loved by Nepalese. You get both veg and non-veg options. Likewise, other dishes like chips, burgers, momo, noodles, etc are also available. Keep your meals as fresh and simple as possible. Try not to consume meat products while trekking because most of them are frozen.

For drinks, varieties of options are available, tea & coffee are common. You also get many alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks. Caffeine and alcohol will dehydrate your body and make you vulnerable to altitude sickness. So, do not consume them while trekking. Similarly, drinking water is provided in all the lodges. You should carry some bars and snacks to munch while trekking.

  • Luggage: For luggage, we use a duffel bag. It's given by the company, so you do not have to buy it yourself. It is the main luggage during the trek. Porter carries it. Each trekker gets a 10 kgs weight limit. Likewise, you can carry a backpack up to 5 kg on you. If you have any additional stuff left that is unusable during the trek, you can store them for free in the hotel's locker room. 

  • Permits: The Poon hill budget trek needs two permits- Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and TIMS card. The package cost covers the expenses of both permits. Our team will get the permit on your behalf. The ACAP permit costs Nrs 3000 per person, and the TIMS card costs Nrs 1000 per person trekking in a group through a company.

  • No, you cannot go to Poon Hill by car. There is no road up to Poon Hill. You can drive up to Ulleri and hike to Poon hill. 

     

  • From Kathmandu, you have to drive to Pokhara. It's a 6 hours drive. Then from Pokhara, you have to drive to Nayapul, which is an hour long. Nayapul is the starting point of the Poon hill hike. 

     

  • You can rent a private car, jeep, or taxi to go to Nayapul from Pokhara. There is also a public vehicle that goes up to Nayapul.
