The scenic Langtang Valley lies closer to Kathmandu as compared to other trekking regions of Nepal. This trekking region is still considered ‘unspoilt’ area because it is lesser used by both trekkers and locals. Following the monsoon season, this trek offers marvelous views of the great peak of Langtang Lirung (7,246m). The popular peak dominates the upper valley and straddles the Tibetan border. During spring season, the area becomes an ideal place to spot birds and flowers. According to a legend, a Lama following a runaway yak discovered the valley. Hence, the name -Lang (Tibetan name for YAK), Tang (more currently "Dhang" means to follow). Trekkers can have good opportunities for moderate climbing excursions in this area. For this you need to spend some extra days for exploration of the extensive glacier system. Our return route takes us past the holy lakes of Gosainkunda, an important pilgrimage, and over a high pass that brings us almost to the edge of the Kathmandu Valley itself.
