Our Pisang peak climbing itinerary also combines the Annapurna circuit, and explores the hidden corners of the Annapurna region and lower Mustang, which make it the best adventure package in the Himalayas.

Pisang peak was first climbed in 1955 by a German Expedition team. The pyramid shape of the peak and the climbing experience it offers has won the hearts of numerous avid mountaineers. Pisang peak climbing is a 24 days journey in the western Himalayas of Nepal. The trip combines trekking and climbing. You will be testing your endurance and pushing your limits during the fantastic Pisang peak climbing in Nepal.

Annapurna circuit

Well, our Pisang peak climbing doesn't end here. We explore further deep in the Annapurna Conservation Area. Leaving the base camp, the trail then continues to the beautiful Manang village (3,519 m), where we also take a rest day. From here, we walk by Yak Kharka (4,018 m) to Thorong Phedi (4,600 m). This is the last settlement before the Thorong La pass (5,416 m).

Crossing Thorong La pass is equally challenging. From the pass, the landscape again is out of this world. The trail beyond the Thorong La pass descends to Muktinath Temple (3,710 m). It is a pilgrimage area. From here onwards, the scenery changes to dry and barren. You will trek following the Kali Gandaki gorge, the deepest gorge in the world. The trail further passes by narrow alleys and apple orchards to Jomsom (2,800 m).

From Jomsom, we will be trekking down to Kalopani (2,530 m) through the fine mountain villages of Thakali and Thakuri communities. You get to enjoy natural hot springs in Tatopani (1,189 m) before descending to the lovely Ghorepani village (2,850 m). The next day, hike to Poon hill (3,210 m) early in the morning and drop down to Tikhedhunga (1,570 m). From here, trek to Birethanti and descend to Nayapul, where the trek ends. Enjoy your short time in Pokhara, and then drive back to Kathmandu.

Mountain views during the Pisang peak climbing

You will witness a range of landscapes and mountain panoramas during the Pisang peak climbing 24 days. Mountains such as Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), Annapurna II (7,937 m), Tilicho Peak (7,134 m), Nilgiri (7,061 m), Hiunchuli (6,441 m), Tukuche (6,920 m), Gangapruna (7,455 m), etc decorates the trail.

With every new village, the scenery changes. In the initial part of the trek, the landscape is lush and verdant. Lush green hills, rivers, terraces, and waterfalls make the trail gorgeous. After Thorong La pass to Jomsom, you will witness dry, barren landscapes.

    Useful Information

    Pisang peak climbing difficulty

Pisang Peak climbing is a challenging and rewarding climb in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The trekking distance to the base camp is approximately 12 miles (20 km), and the climbing route is steep, with an elevation gain of more than 6,091 meters (20,000 feet). The trek takes around 7-8 days to reach the base camp and an additional 3-4 days to summit the peak.

Our Pisang Peak climbing itinerary also involves the Annapurna circuit trek after the summit push, which makes the overall journey 24 days long. Crossing the Thorong La pass is an equally challenging and rewarding part of this adventurous journey in the western Himalayas of Nepal. The trail goes through many different forests, pastures, and gorges.

    Technical difficulty

The technical difficulty of the climb depends on the route chosen. The most common route used for the Pisang peak climbing route is the West Face, which is considered a moderate climb. The climbing route does not have any major technically challenging sections but has many steep, rocky terrains and some exposure to altitude. Climbers should have prior experience with ice and snow climbing, as well as a good level of fitness.

    Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness is a major concern when climbing Pisang Peak. The peak stands at 6,091 meters (20,000 feet) above sea level, and climbing to such a high altitude can cause symptoms such as headache, fatigue, nausea, and difficulty sleeping.

To prevent altitude sickness, it's essential to acclimatize properly, which means taking the time to adjust to the altitude before attempting to summit. Climbers should also take care to stay well-hydrated and avoid alcohol or other dehydrating substances.

    Pisang Peak Climbing season

Climbing season in Nepal goes from March to May and October to November. These months are part of the spring and autumn seasons.

    Pisang Peak Climbing in spring

The spring season, which typically falls between March and May, offers the perfect combination of clear skies and mild temperatures, making it an ideal time to attempt a climb. The trail to the base camp of Pisang Peak is well-defined and passes through lush forests, terraced fields, and traditional villages. Likewise, the climbing route is well-established thanks to all the snowfall in winter.

    Pisang Peak Climbing in autumn

Autumn is another great time of the year to embark on Pisang peak climbing. The stable weather and fantastic climate make trekking and climbing both fantastic. The trekking route is enhanced with seasonal vegetation, and the clear mountain landscapes along the trail make walking phenomenal. We are more likely to get the summit window and have a safe climbing venture in the autumn season.

    Accommodation during Pisang Peak Climbing

When climbing Pisang Peak, accommodation and meals are typically provided by local tea houses along the way. The tea houses are basic but comfortable and offer a place to rest and refuel during the climb. They are generally operated by local families and provide a unique cultural experience for climbers.

Accommodation during the climb is typically in the form of shared rooms with twin beds, often with a shared bathroom. The rooms may be basic, but they provide a warm and safe place to sleep. Some teahouses may have more comfortable options for an additional cost. We recommend bringing a sleeping bag, as the teahouses' blankets and mattresses may not be very clean or comfortable.

During the climbing period, we will be equipped with all the camping equipment and cooking equipment. We use sturdy alpine tents at the base camp and high camp for night stays. All the tents are set by the supporting crew members.

Note: When climbing at high altitudes, the accommodation may not be as comfortable as what is available at lower altitudes.

    Meals During Pisang Peak Climbing

Meals during the climb are typically simple but hearty and nutritious. Local dishes such as dal bhat (lentil soup and rice), momos (steamed dumplings), and vegetable curries are common. Some tea houses also offer western food options such as pasta, pizza, and sandwiches.

It is important to note that while on the trek, the availability of certain food items may be limited, so it is recommended to be flexible with your dietary preferences. It's also important to remember to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water, as the high altitude can cause dehydration.

Do I need travel insurance for Pisang peak climbing?

Travel insurance is important to participate with us on Pisang peak climbing. As it is a long venture in the Himalayas, the unexpected can happen at any time, and travel insurance can provide protection against a variety of risks, like trip cancellation, medical emergencies, lost or stolen baggage, and emergency evacuation.

When climbing Pisang Peak, it's important to have coverage for emergency medical expenses, as the altitude and rugged terrain can be challenging, and accidents can happen. Additionally, having coverage for emergency evacuation can provide peace of mind, knowing that you will be able to get the medical attention you need in case of an emergency and that you will be able to get back home safely.

Charging, internet, and hot shower during Pisang peak climbing

Charging, internet, and hot shower services are usually provided in the tea houses at additional cost. Our Pisang peak climbing cost does not cover these expenses, so make sure to have a small budget for these expenses.

Charging: Many accommodations in the Annapurna region have limited electrical outlets, and they may not always be reliable. Bring a portable charger or power bank to ensure that you can charge your devices anytime. Some lodges and teahouses may also have a charging service for a small fee.

Internet: Internet access in the Annapurna region can be spotty and slow, particularly in more remote areas. Some lodges and teahouses may have wifi, but it may not be reliable and may not be available at all times. It's best to plan for limited internet access and not rely on it for important communications or navigation.

Hot shower: Hot showers are not always available along the Pisang peak trekking trail, particularly in remote areas. Some accommodations may have hot showers for a small fee, but they may not be available on a regular basis. Carry baby wipes, wet wipes, or other alternatives for hygiene.
